Neus holds a PhD in Biology specialized in deep-sea benthic ecology by the Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John’s, Canada. She is a postdoctoral researcher at the MARE-Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre/IMAR – Instituto do Mar, based in Horta, Azores. Her research interests include deep-sea benthic ecology with a focus on biodiversity and its environmental drivers, trophic and functional ecology. She uses statistical and modelling techniques to infer ecological relationships and environmental drivers. Her research will be dedicated to the development of a trait database of the Azorean seamount ecosystems using a collaborative approach with ecologists and experts from different taxonomic groups. This database will be used to assess functional diversity, and sensitivity and resilience to perturbation of these ecosystems.
